Why Implement BCM?

Business continuity is the capability of an organization to continue delivering its products or services during a business disruption at a predetermined capacity. Business disruptions can come in many forms. It can be external to the organization such as a global pandemic, natural disasters, economic recession, shortage of suppliers, sudden loss in demand or even sudden increase in demand, as well as internal to the organization, such as staff turnover, insufficient expertise, or data loss. The adversity faced by organizations during a disruption could be dealt with better with its corresponding impacts greatly minimized if effective business continuity management were in place.

Benefits of having BCM that is in line with ISO 22301:2019

A. On a par with international standards

ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies) whereby ISO 22301 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 223, Societal security. Hence, by having BCM that is in line with ISO 22301:2019, the organizations’ top management can rest assured that their organization-wide BCM is on a par with international standards, even though actual certification is not being pursued.

B. Huge cost savings for organizations should future ISO certification is pursued

Should the top management decide to pursue actual ISO certification in the future, they need not have to reinvent the wheel as the BCM created through this program is already in concordance with the ISO 22301:2019 certification.
